Music Room

Lea Frisoni has this room set up as a nursery, but I needed somewhere to put this piano. I found it in an antique store when I was about 12 - it's one of the few surviving pieces from previous houses (and even then, I painted it gloss black primarily to disguise multiple repairs to the legs). I used a full-scale plaid fabric on the stool after seeing large-scale plaids used on 1:1 chairs to good effect.

The little drum set and double bass are both Christmas ornaments, if you can believe it. I originally bought a Heidi Ott bass for this room, but the Christmas ornament is proportioned much more realistically (I played stringed instruments for years, so imperfect 1:12 violins, cellos, etc. annoy me) - and cost about one-quarter of what I paid for the Heidi Ott bass! (The best miniature violins in existence are made by the mostly-retired David Edwards and cost about as much as a high-quality 1:1 violin, which is why I don't own one.)

In this room, you can see the opening windows a bit better - my attempt at scratch-making them didn't go well, so I took a cue from Otterine (who occasionally uses 1:24 or 1:48 items in her 1:12 builds) and used half-scale French doors, tweaking the dormer measurements a little to ensure a good fit.

(In retrospect, I should've bought an earbud splitter and concealed another pair of earbud "speakers" in this room, then loaded a bunch of live acoustic music on my iPod to suggest the occupants having a jam session. Whoops.)

    1. Thank you, Norma! I matched this color to a Tiffany's box...I've always liked that shade. (It looks a little lighter in the picture.)

  2. The bass looks great and I know what you mean about proportion. I had thought about using Barbie-scale French doors in my house so they would be in a grander scale than the 1:12 windows. I like the color, too --isn't it perfect for a music room ;)

    1. Thanks, John. Wow, 1:6 doors would certainly have stood out! I had to put aqua blue in this house somewhere; why not in a room reserved for creative endeavors?
